Understanding GPU cloud and neoclouds

The term “neocloud” has come to describe offerings focused on accelerated compute, particularly GPUs used for artificial intelligence. It is not a legal category or a uniform technical guarantee. When choosing a provider, examine the resources, operations and concrete commitments.

Prelaunch project

General-purpose cloud and specialist cloud

A general-purpose cloud provider often offers several service families: virtual machines, storage, networking, databases and managed tools. A provider focused on accelerated compute concentrates on resources suited to parallel workloads, such as model training or some scientific workloads. This focus may make the offering easier to understand. It does not by itself guarantee a better price, a particular availability level or simpler operations.

What does a GPU do?

A graphics processing unit runs many operations in parallel. Machine learning models perform matrix calculations that can benefit from this design. Accelerator memory, communication between cards, storage and software also affect outcomes. Two GPU models are not interchangeable for every workload. Before choosing, estimate model size, data volume, job duration and concurrent users.

Training, adaptation and inference

Training adjusts a model using data and can require long compute runs. Adaptation starts from an existing model and specialises it for a task. Inference is using the model: accepting input and producing an output. These phases have different profiles. Training may tolerate scheduled sessions, while an interactive application depends more on traffic peaks and response time. A project can combine several modes, each with its own requirements.

What does “European” mean?

The term may refer to a company’s headquarters, applicable law, data-centre location, operations teams or access controls. These dimensions do not imply one another. A provider should identify who signs the contract, which entities participate, where data flows and how privileged access is governed. GPU manufacturing belongs to a global supply chain; a service operated in Europe does not mean its hardware was made there.

Residency and compliance

Residency describes defined storage or processing locations. To assess it, also ask where logs, backups and support tools are located, and under what conditions remote access occurs. A certification has a scope and a validity period: request the certificate and check which services it covers. A country name or label does not replace analysis of your processing or the contract terms.

Assessing an offer

Compare accelerator generations and specifications, memory, billing rules, minimum duration, attached storage and data export options. Ask how the provider handles failures, maintenance and capacity changes. For inference, describe normal volumes and peaks. For training, provide job sizes and session frequency. Answers should be documented and comparable.

Prepare your project

Start by describing the model or model family, workload phase, compute volume and data involved. Add residency constraints and the date you would need a solution. You can collect these details in the EULYO brief: it is generated on your device and sent to nobody. EULYO is in pre-launch. Services, resources and guarantees mentioned here remain to be defined.

Questions to ask before migrating

Ask whether you can test a representative workload, how trial costs are calculated and what storage or transfer fees apply. Clarify export formats, deletion timelines and dependencies on provider-specific tools. Check how you will hear about capacity changes or maintenance. These answers give your team a practical basis for comparing proposals. They also help estimate migration work and the fallback options you may need.

Plan for a change of provider

Before you commit, identify the formats in which you can retrieve models, datasets, logs and configuration. Check whether your orchestration and monitoring tools work outside the provider, and estimate the time required to restore a representative workload elsewhere. A documented exit path makes a supplier comparison more useful because it includes the cost of leaving as well as the cost of starting. Record assumptions that remain unverified, assign someone to confirm them and revisit the comparison when the provider publishes its actual service terms.

In brief

Assess a provider against a defined scope: resources, operations, residency, contract and evidence.

FAQ

Common questions

Is EULYO available now?

No. EULYO is in pre-launch and is not accepting orders.

Are the GPUs made in Europe?

No European component origin is claimed. The hardware supply chain is global.

Can I send my brief?

The configurator downloads a file to your device. It does not send it to EULYO.
